This little owl has been a WIP for a few years now. I started this painting during a difficult time in my life. I had some legal problems and a couple of deaths in the family, and so painting became less of a priority. Originally, I wanted to give this painting to my mother since she is fond of owls, like I am of roosters. But when she first saw it she didn’t seem too excited about it, at least to me. So I chose to do a geometric background knowing it wasn’t going to my mom. With more creative freedom, I decided to explore a style that I had been wanting to try out: geometric design. I love flowery details and realism, but there’s something to be said about the straight line: it’s impossible to do! I avoided using a ruler when I was painting the background, I did use a ruler to draw the initial lines though. Anyway, I’m almost finished, just have to add details to the eyes, and some peach highlights on the left side of the owls face. I don’t know why the last few paint strokes are the hardest for me.
